SOCHI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT
Sochi International Airport has a growing reputation for being host airport to large-scale events such as the annual F1 Grand Prix, 2018 FIFA World Cup and the 2014 Sochi Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games.
When CAI and its partners first acquired the airport in 2012, the team introduced a slew of initiatives to get the airport ready to welcome the crowds.
These included adding 10 passenger loading bridges, a new car park with 700 lots and a temporary terminal to handle the expected increase in passengers.
As Sochi International Airport’s consultant and investor, CAI also enhanced the way-finding system, implemented accessibility upgrades for special needs athletes and visitors, and refined operational processes and contingency planning.
Since then, Sochi International has been host airport to World Cup 2018, successfully handling nearly 700,000 passengers, seven times the average volume; and over 5,000 flights.
At the Winter Olympics and Paralympics 2014, the airport efficiently handled nearly 400,000 passengers and 4,000 flights.
Notwithstanding the stretched conditions, 90% of the flights were on time. The airport received numerous commendations from dignitaries, participants and visitors for its operational excellence and efficiency.
Sochi International has been named Best Airport every year, in its traffic category, since 2015 at the Airports Council International Airport Service Quality Awards, and Russia’s National Airport Infrastructure Show. It also clinched the Business Traveller Russia Best Regional Airport Award in 2016 and 2018.
