Succcess Story

AIRPORTS OF SOUTHERN RUSSIA

CAI and its partners invested in a group of airports in Russia’s Krasnodar region in 2012. The airports serve the resorts of Anapa and Sochi, and the business centre and political capital of the region, Krasnodar.

CAI provided a comprehensive range of services to the investee airports to drive multi-faceted improvements across all business lines. This includes traffic development, capacity planning, commercial and retail development, airport service quality and operational efficiency enhancements.

General airport improvements and a new service blueprinting concept were introduced to uplift the passenger experience. Sochi and Anapa Airports inaugurated a new VIP terminal and a passenger terminal respectively to cater to evolving passenger demands. Krasnodar and Sochi Airports also revamped their commercial space, to offer passengers even more shopping and dining options.

With CAI’s active participation, the airports’ traffic hit over 12 million passengers in 2018, more than double that of 2012.

The results of CAI’s integrated management approach were validated when all the airports dominated the awards at the National Airport Infrastructure Show in Russia every year since 2015. The judging criteria was based on passenger services quality, airline marketing, infrastructure modernisation, security, non-aviation business as well as public relations strategy.

Sochi International Airport also came up tops at the Airports Council International Airport Service Quality Awards, every year since 2015.

TOM JOBIM INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT

CAI invested in Tom Jobim International Airport in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil in 2013. Since then, the country’s second largest airport has been gradually transformed into a world-class facility.

Airport capacity was boosted with a new 100,000-sqm concourse, more than 20 contact gates, additional aircraft parking stands and a new multi-storey car park.

CAI and the airport team also continually enhanced airport processes and introduced new services to uplift the overall flow and passenger experience. The commercial areas were revamped with over a hundred new shops and F&B outlets, including the first walk-through duty free store in Brazil.

Tom Jobim International successfully hosted the 2016 Summer Olympics and Paralympics. It handled an unprecedented number of travellers, and registered the highest sales in its stores and restaurants.

The airport’s operational excellence and thoughtfully planned festivities earned praises from travellers and media, who described their experience as seamless and magical.

In 2017, Tom Jobim International became the first in South America to achieve the International Air Transport Association Centre of Excellence for Independent Validators Certification for Pharmaceutical Handling (IATA CEIV Pharma). This positioned the airport as an important logistics partner in the pharmaceutical chain, and a main port of entry for pharmaceuticals in Latin America.

The improvements at the airport were widely recognised. The airport was named the Best Airport for Operational Efficiency in Latin America, and Most Punctual Airport in Latin America (10-20 mppa) by OAG Aviation Worldwide in 2017. The airport was also voted the sixth Best Airport in South America in 2019 by Skytrax.
