China, Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport
The Sino-Singapore Chongqing Airport Commercial Management Co., Ltd was established by Changi Airports International (CAI) and its partner, Chongqing Airport Group Co., Ltd, in November 2018 to enhance Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport’s non-aeronautical business.
Chongqing Jiangbei International Airport is a major aviation hub in Western China. The airport is the ninth busiest airport in the country and welcomed close to 45 million passengers in 2019.
The Sino-Singapore Chongqing Airport Commercial Management Company is transforming the airport’s commercial landscape by introducing innovative elements and experiential concepts that promote a sense of place, and new product categories and brands that appeal to travellers and visitors.
The company is also managing advertising sales in the terminals, the Commercially Important Person (CIP) and car park facilities, and the ground transport centre.
The joint venture is a culmination of CAI’s successful collaboration with Chongqing Airport Group’s management team.
CAI first partnered with Chongqing Airport in 2008 to optimise one of the airport terminal’s commercial area. When the terminal became operational in 2010, sales per passenger jumped by more than 20 per cent.
CAI was engaged again in 2011 to work with the team to develop the commercial space for the new terminal 3A.
The terminal successfully opened in August 2017 with unique shop fronts and products that promoted the city’s rich identity, and created a strong sense of place.
Passengers were spoilt for choice with dining and shopping options, with an extensive selection of top international labels and popular heritage brands.
The airport clinched several consecutive Best Airport awards at Airport Council International’s Airport Service Quality Awards since 2017. The Creative Corridor by JCDecaux China, in Terminal 3A, also won the 2018 Moodie Davitt Report’s Most Impactful Individual Advertising Execution Award.
The collaboration is part of the Chongqing Connectivity Initiative between Singapore and Chongqing. CAI holds a 49 per cent stake in the joint venture.
