Peter Lee Chung Shek to Join Changi Airport Planners and Engineers as Managing Director

Singapore, 13 August 2015 – Changi Airports International (CAI) is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr Peter Lee Chung Shek as Managing Director of Changi Airport Planners and Engineers (CAPE) with effect from 17 August 2015. CAPE is a wholly-owned subsidiary of CAI and is one of the leading airport consultancy companies with an extensive track record in master planning and design of airports.

Mr Lee is an accomplished executive with over 30 years of experience in civil infrastructure business in Singapore, Malaysia and many other countries in South Asia and Southeast Asia. CAI is delighted that someone of Mr Lee’s calibre with a proven track record in growing businesses has agreed to join CAPE at a pivotal time in its development.

Mr Lee will take over the reins of leading CAPE from Mr Lertpanyavit Somkiat, who will be retiring from his position at the end of the year.

Mr Somkiat has demonstrated exemplary leadership and commitment in establishing CAPE’s presence in overseas markets since its inception in 2007. Mr Lee will build on that foundation and cement CAPE’s reputation as a leading airport consultancy company.

CAI wishes to express its heartfelt appreciation to Mr Somkiat for his service.

Mr Lee began his career as a geotechnical engineer in Hong Kong. His first airport project involved the review and design works for the Hong Kong International Airport reclamation project.

Mr Lee last served as Chairman of AECOM Singapore Pte. Ltd. He has held numerous senior executive and board positions during his career. He was responsible for the strategic development of the civil infrastructure business in Singapore and Malaysia. He also drove the growth of AECOM’s business lines in South and Southeast Asia, leading as an executive vice-president for the region. Some of his notable projects in Southeast Asia spanned China, Indonesia, Malaysia and Vietnam. In the initial years of his career, he pioneered a business start-up in India and saw its growth to a 1200-strong workforce where they undertook key projects in India including the Chennai and Kolkata metro rail systems.

Mr Lee had managed several large-scale building and infrastructure projects, including commercial, residential and rail transportation projects. He is one of the winners of the Building and Construction Authority’s 2012 Design and Engineering Safety Excellence Awards (DESEA) for the construction of twin bore train tunnels and tracks (total length of 4.2 km) for Circle Line Stage 5. He is also no stranger to the aviation industry, having overseen master planning, civil engineering design consultancy and geotechnical advisory for airports. He led teams in the strategic wins and deliveries of the land use master plan for Changi Airport, Changi Airport’s Terminal 4 structural engineering and the upgrading of Brunei International Airport.

Mr Lee graduated from University of London, United Kingdom, with a Bachelor of Science, Engineering, and has a Master of Philosophy (Soil) from University of Cambridge, United Kingdom. He is a Professional Engineer registered with the Professional Engineers Board of Singapore. He is also a member of the Institution of Civil Engineers in the United Kingdom, United States and Hong Kong.
