Project Description
In 2008, Tancredo Neves International Airport (TNIA) in Brazil’s third largest city, Belo Horizonte, surpassed its capacity of 5 million on the back of tremendous growth.

Consequently, the Secretariat of Economic Development (SEDE) of Minas Gerais appointed CAI in 2009 to develop the airport’s master plan, taking into consideration SEDE’s vision of an “Airport City” with TNIA as a major hub. CAI reviewed TNIA’s land use and facilities; air traffic forecast; economic, socio-political and regulatory frameworks; and engaged key stakeholders for the development of the master plan.

SEDE re-appointed CAI in 2010 to develop the concept design and tender documentation for the proposed TNIA Terminal 2, in preparation for Belo Horizonte’s role as a host city for the 2014 FIFA World Cup.
